The business jet market is its own world. Acquisition costs start around $2 million for an entry-level very light jet (VLJ) like a Cirrus Vision Jet and climb past $70 million for a long-range Gulfstream G700. Operating cost, crewing, hangar, insurance and recurrent training all scale up with size — and so does the value of the time you save versus airline travel.
Most jet buyers fall into one of three groups: owner-operators flying single-pilot VLJs (Eclipse, Vision Jet, Phenom 100), corporate flight departments running mid-size aircraft (Citation XLS+, Phenom 300, Learjet 75), and family offices or charter operators flying super-mid or heavy iron (Falcon 2000, Challenger 605, Gulfstream G450 and up). Each segment has its own market dynamics, ownership structures and resale curves.
On MarketplaceAviation we list business jets from dealers, brokers and direct owners worldwide. Listings include APU hours, ENG1/ENG2 cycles, ADS-B/Mode S compliance status, ProLine/Honeywell/Garmin avionics configuration, and recent inspection history — the data that actually determines a jet's market value.

Engine program enrollment
Most jets are enrolled in hourly maintenance programs (JSSI, MSP Gold, ESP, TAP). A jet on-program is worth significantly more than one off-program — buyers should verify the program is current, transferable, and at what cost.
Avionics compliance — ADS-B Out, FANS 1/A, CPDLC
Newer mandates (ADS-B Out worldwide, FANS 1/A and CPDLC for North Atlantic operations, EASA Pt 91N) can cost \$80,000–\$300,000 to retrofit. Verify what is installed and what is still needed for your intended ops.
Cycle vs. hour ratio
A jet with low hours but high cycles (typical of short-leg charter) often has more wear than its airframe hours suggest. Always check both numbers and the typical mission profile.
Damage history and major inspections
Look for any history of hard landings, prop strikes, hangar damage, or significant repairs. Verify status of major inspections (12-year, gear OH, mid-life, etc.) and budget accordingly — a deferred major can easily reach seven figures.
Entry-level very light jets (VLJ) like a Cirrus Vision Jet or Phenom 100 start around \$2–\$3 million used. Light jets like a Citation M2 or CJ3+ sit at \$3–\$8 million. Mid-size jets (Phenom 300E, Citation XLS+, Learjet 75) trade between \$8 and \$15 million. Super-mid and heavy jets (Falcon 2000, Challenger 605, Gulfstream G450 and above) range from \$15 million to over \$50 million.
The cheapest path to jet ownership is usually an early-2000s Cessna Citation Mustang, Eclipse 500/550 or first-generation Phenom 100. Acquisition can be \$1.2–\$2 million for these aircraft. Be aware that operating cost is the bigger number — even the smallest jets cost \$1,500–\$2,500 per flight hour all-in, plus pilot training (\$30,000–\$70,000 initial type rating) and recurrent (annually).
Yes, with the right type rating and SIC waiver where applicable. Owner-flown single-pilot jets are common: Citation M2, CJ3+, CJ4, Phenom 100/300, HondaJet, Pilatus PC-24, Cirrus Vision Jet, and the Eclipse series are all routinely flown single-pilot by experienced owner-operators. Insurance typically requires 1,500–2,500 total time plus a fresh type rating before quoting an owner-pilot policy.
Yes. Listing a jet on MarketplaceAviation is free for owners, brokers and dealers, with no commission on the sale. Optional one-time boosts (Standard €4.90 / Premium €19.90) feature your listing at the top of category and search results — modest cost relative to a jet sale.
